Home Instructions for Authors

Please follow the following instructions carefully in preparing and submitting your work.

Please note that if you wish to submit studies from outside Wales you will have to be sponsored by a member of the society.

Preparation of abstract

The text should be in Arial font and no less than size 12. It should also be no less than 1.5 line space.

It must be arranged in 3 text boxes with the title in the top box, the authors and institution in the second box (with the presenting author underlined) and the abstract in the third box. This can easily be achieved with a word processor by inserting a table of one column and three rows. The text can then be typed or pasted into the table.

The Header

The below should be inserted above the abstract.

Aligned Left: WELSH SURGICAL SOCIETY

Aligned Right: CYMDEITHAS LAWFEDDYGOL CYMRU

Alternatively, follow the link below to download a specimen abstract (in Microsoft Word) and replace the sample text.

Abstract information can be downloaded here.
Abstract proforma can be downloaded here.

There is no restriction on the number of words or the size of each box so long as the completed document is printable on a single A4 page. Illustrations, graphs and diagrams can be included. However, it should be noted that the proceedings is printed in black and white, colour within the abstracts is not recommended. Please remember to indicate on the submitted abstract the prize category for which it is to be considered.

Submission Guidelines

  • Two copies of the abstract should be prepared. The identity of the institution should not be included in the abstract text of either copy.
  • The first should have the authors’ names and institution omitted and will be used for the anonymous scoring.
  • The second should be complete with all details; one of these will be used by the printers when compiling the proceedings.
